We Do America!

Alpine, a tiny oasis in the Texan desert

For the first time in our 60+ day trip, we had a difficult time finding something to do with our time today. We arrived in Alpine, Texas—about 45 minutes outside Big Bend National Park, which brought us here—this afternoon around 3PM. With little more than an hour of daylight left, it was too late to visit the park today, so we figured we’d find something to do in Alpine instead.

Finding entertainment in this tiny town on a Monday ended up being easier said than done. We eventually found a small two-screen movie theater that opened at 6PM and were able to catch Marvel’s Dr. Strange (which was pretty enjoyable). The guy behind the ticket counter was also the mayor of Alpine. And also a chemistry professor at the local college. No, really.

We hit a local pizza place afterwards, it being one of maybe three food options that were still open at 9PM. The pizza was surprisingly good (even by New York standards!), there was live music playing, and the local crowd was super friendly. Good times!

It wasn’t a picture kind of day, so no photos to share. I’m sure we’ll take a bunch tomorrow, though!
