We Do America!

The Tetons are missing!

Howdy, cowboys and cowgirls! This is going to be a super quick update since not a whole lot happened today. The clouds have been hanging low and the weather has been a mixed bag of sorts. This morning we woke up to snow on the ground. The cloud cover is so pervasive that even though we are snuggled in the valley of the Teton Mountains, we have yet to see them!

Excited to take in Grand Teton National Park, we got in the car and drove to see the iconic John Moulton barn. Along the way, it rained and snowed and rained…and snowed. I took a few shots of the barn, but it’s almost unrecognizable since in every photo of this barn, the Teton range towers behind it. As you can see in my photo, there are no mountains. It could have been taken in New York!

Is this Vermont? New York? Nope! It's Wyoming!

Then we headed to Oxbow Bend, a scenic part of the river that runs through the area. As with the barn, there are many photos taken at this very spot. My photo looks like a scene straight out of Pennsylvania because it is missing the ultra-dramatic Teton mountains behind it. Hopefully the clouds will be gone tomorrow since the mountains are the main draw here.

Looks like Pennsylvania, doesn't it? Believe it or not, there are 13,000+ foot peaks in this photo (behind the clouds)!

We decided to continue driving to scout good places to hike and to look for wildlife. As we tooled around we hit patches of sleet, rain, and even hail. We turned up a non-paved Bridger-Teton National Forest road. It wasn’t long before we spotted a moose with a full rack heading into the woods. And soon after that, there was a jam of cars packed on the side of the road. Photographers with their tell-tale long lenses were out. It could only mean one thing. Bear. And he wasn’t that far away. He was a grizzly clawing at the ground for whatever it is that he smelled. Forty five minutes later, I came away with the photo below. See Billy’s post for a more dramatic portrait.

"You guys look like you'd be a tasty snack" That's what he's thinking.

Then we continued our motorized hike and managed to see a bunch of deer with a stag, another bear (very far away, yay!), some birds of prey and a chipmunk. Still haven’t seen the mountains though. And that’s what I came for. Hopefully tomorrow 🙂

The following photos are for Sharon, one of our biggest fans. Hope you enjoy them 😉

Billy climbing into a sculpture at the National Museum of Wildlife Art. Probably wasn't supposed to be doing this, but he is!

I hope the clouds clear up for tomorrow’s visit. I want to see them too! Still beautiful!
