Grand Teton: hail, snow, a bear!

Terrible weather today. It was cold, and the sky couldn’t decide if it wanted to drop hail or snow on us, so it alternated between the two. We spent the day at Grand Teton National Park nonetheless, but the clouds were so low in the sky that we could have been anywhere—it was impossible to see much of anything.

But the day was still pretty great because we got to see a grizzly bear, and this time it wasn’t a mile away. We spotted the bear in a meadow of tall grass (and snow…) along a dirt road where a small group of 5-6 people had gathered. It eventually wandered to within about 30 yards of us (we did keep the car between us and the bear, just in case!), giving everyone a good look and a chance to snap some photos.

The rest of the day was mostly unremarkable. We wandered the park a bit to get a feel for it, but with the low clouds we weren’t really able to take in the views. The weather forecast looks great through the end of the weekend, at least.

This is supposed to be pretty scenic, with the Teton mountain range rising up in the background behind the barn. Maybe tomorrow!
